Healthcare scenario far better than before: CM
Shillong, Sep 10: The state government in the past five years recruited 500 doctors – some still undergoing training – to reduce the shortage of doctors in Primary Health Centres (PHCs) and Community Health Centres (CHCs) in the state.
Informing this in the Assembly on Wednesday, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said the appointments have led to significant improvement in the healthcare sector.
A recruitment board set up for the Health department was also a landmark decision in tackling the shortage of healthcare professionals, he said.
However, he admitted that despite the progress made challenges still remain, and there is more work to be done.
He assured that the situation is far better than before and expressed confidence that it will continue to improve in the days to come.
