Massive cleaning drive conducted on garbage-ridden Tura-Damalgre road

Ampati, Sept 16: A large-scale cleaning drive and public awareness campaign was carried out today along the Tura-Damalgre road, particularly targeting the Wakkagre and Lower Damalgre stretches, which have long been plagued by rampant and illegal garbage dumping.

The initiative was spearheaded by the Rerapara C&RD Block in collaboration with the Damalgre United Youth Welfare Society (DUYWS), nokmas, village elders and the public in response to growing complaints from residents regarding the unsightly and unhygienic conditions of the area. Taking advantage of the isolated and forested surroundings, several individuals—reportedly including residents from Tura and its outskirts—have been using the roadside as an unofficial dumping ground, creating a severe eyesore and causing a stench that affects daily commuters and local inhabitants alike.

Over 50 bags of garbage were collected during the process, necessitating the deployment of disposal vans from the Tura Municipal Board (TMB) for proper disposal of collected waste.

Authorities have issued a strong appeal to the public to refrain from illegal dumping and warned that stern action would be taken against anyone found littering or disposing of garbage in the area.
