Five arrested in Sonapur dacoity case; weapons, stolen items recovered

Guwahati, Sept 17 : East Guwahati Police District (EGPD) has arrested five suspects and recovered stolen items in connection with the dacoity case reported on August 24 at 13th Mile, Tamulikuchi under Sonapur Police Station.

The breakthrough came after a joint operation by the EGPD’s Special Operations Group (SOG), Sonapur PS, and Jorabat Outpost, which conducted coordinated overnight raids in Byrnihat, Nongpoh, and 12th Mile based on technical surveillance.

Those arrested have been identified as Maxxpil K Marak and Tronit Sangma, both from Rajabagan, Nongpoh; Bijoy Thangkhiew (45) of Pahamsyiem, Nongpoh; Nur Mahammad alias Ali (36) of Patalikuchi, Barpeta; and Hilbert Sangma (30) of Tandu, Sonapur.

Items recovered from their possession include one SBL gun, an iron dagger (1.5 ft), two sharp knives, a mask, two looted mobile phones, gold-like ornaments, and ₹2,000 in cash. Police also seized a Redi-Go vehicle (ML10B7842) and a Tata Tigor (ML10B6113) believed to have been used in the crime.

Police said swift coordination and strong teamwork led to the timely resolution of the case. Legal proceedings against the accused have been initiated.
