India highlights heat action plans, offers support to Global South at UNGA dialogue

New York, Sept 23: India has highlighted its national efforts to tackle extreme heat, including Heat Action Plans, use of digital tools for last-mile alerts and promotion of low-cost cooling solutions, at a high-level dialogue held as part of the 80th anniversary session of the UN General Assembly here.

Sibi George, Secretary (West) in the Ministry of External Affairs, attended the High-Level Solutions Dialogue on Early Warning and Extreme Heat on Monday.

Speaking at the session, George underlined India’s readiness to work with partners to support the Global South in addressing environmental disasters triggered by rising global temperatures, the MEA said in a social media post.

He highlighted India’s “national Heat Action Plans, use of digital tools for last-mile alerts, and low-cost cooling solutions to address extreme heat”, it said.

George stressed that India is committed to advancing early warning systems, risk reduction and effective disaster management measures to strengthen global climate resilience. (PTI)
