HC stays recruitment over ‘nepotism’ allegations

Shillong, Sep 24: Based on a petition alleging nepotism against Meghalaya Public Service Commission (MPSC), the Meghalaya High Court has directed status quo in the process of appointment of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Officer.

“Till the next date, however, status quo will be maintained,” stated the order issued by a bench headed by Acting Chief Justice HS Thangkhiew on Monday.

The petition was listed for further hearing on September 25.

The petitioners alleged that the MPSC’s decision to conduct direct interviews for the position contradicts the Meghalaya Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Service Rules, 2000.

The rules mandate direct recruitment to any post in grade II (Junior) through examination or interview conducted by MPSC, they said. The MPSC’s method allegedly violates this rule.

The petitioners accused the MPSC of nepotism, stating that despite being eminently qualified, their names did not appear in the selection list.
