Student in open category moved to waiting list after review
Shillong, Oct 7: The state government has announced a list of 93 MBBS seats allotted under the Central Pool quota for the academic session 2025-26, after addressing concerns over ‘anomalies’ raised by the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU).
The list includes 14 candidates in unreserved category, 37 in Khasi-Jaintia category, 37 in Garo category, and 5 in the OST/SC category. Additionally, 35 candidates have been placed on the waiting list.
The list was published on Tuesday in pursuance of the minutes of a meeting held on October 6.
One of the candidates, Tanuska Chakravorty, who was initially allotted a seat in the unreserved category, has been pushed to the waiting list following the review.
On October 3, the government had put on hold the acceptance of nominations for MBBS courses under the Central Pool quota following the KSU’s protest over alleged anomalies in preparation of the merit list.
However, the state government maintained that there was no anomaly and the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) was followed in preparing the list.
To KSU’s allegation about tribal students with high scores still kept in reserved category, potentially depriving tribal students with lower scores, health minister Wailadmiki Shylla had cited Clause 9.6 of SOP that allows any eligible student to choose if s/he wants to remain in reserved category or be shifted to open category.
The KSU, meanwhile, demanded for scrapping of Clause 9.6 from the SOP.
Meanwhile, selected candidates for the course have been directed to report to the Health and Family department, Room No 502, Additional Building of Meghalaya Secretary, on October 7, 8 and 9 before 5 pm for acceptance of the course and execution of the bond-cum-agreement.
Selected candidates who failed to report on the specified dates will automatically lose his or her right to nomination and the next eligible candidate will be nominated, according to an official notification.
The terms & conditions as specified in the advertisement or the courses etc., shall be binding, it added.
