Meghalaya HC directs weighbridge panel to submit report in 4 weeks

Shillong, Oct 16: The Meghalaya High Court has given four weeks time for the three-member committee  to submit its report on the current condition and functionality of weighbridges and weigh pads across the state.

The committee comprises of a retired IAS officer Ethan War Kharmalki, advocate Treiborlang Jyrwa and officer on special duty (OSD) of the State Legal Services Authority.

This decision comes in response to a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by social activist Tennydard M Marak, alleging significant revenue losses due to malfunctioning and inadequate weighbridge facilities.

“The three-member committee so constituted shall file a report within four weeks from date,” the division bench comprising Chief Justice Soumen Sen and Justice W Diengdoh said in its order passed on Thursday.

The matter has been adjourned till November 24, 2025, when the committee’s report is expected to be considered by the Court.

The bench has also directed the Registrar (Administration) to immediately communicate the order to the members of the committee.
