Shillong, Oct 28: Union Minister of State for Petroleum, Natural Gas, and Tourism, Suresh Gopi, visited Baghmara, the headquarters of South Garo Hills district, and reviewed the overall functioning of various line departments and the implementation of government schemes.
The review meeting, held at the New Circuit House Conference Hall, was attended by Deputy Commissioner Sumit Kumar Singh, Superintendent of Police Shailendra Bamaniya, and other senior officials. Singh highlighted the status of ongoing and completed schemes, raising concerns about infrastructural and connectivity issues in the district.
Gopi expressed satisfaction with the district’s performance, stating it was one of his most satisfying visits. However, he urged officials to strive for more output, emphasizing the importance of IT and connectivity. He also stressed the need for at least one mental health clinic in the district and provided constructive feedback on projects undertaken by line departments.
Following the review, Gopi visited an Anganwadi Centre where he interacted with children and he also inspected the Operation Theatre at Baghmara Civil Hospital.
He also interacted with students of Baghmara Govt Higher Secondary School and had a bite of Mid-Day Meal prepared in the school. His visit left a positive impact on government functionaries, with valuable suggestions and observations.
