NE regional front to benefit BJP: Momin

Shillong, Nov 14: The state BJP has downplayed concerns over the proposed formation of a unified regional front, saying any such grouping is ultimately aligned with the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and therefore poses no contradiction to the BJP’s agenda.

“Whoever is forming it, they are part of NDA, so that doesn’t matter. They want to voice for the Northeast as a regional front—let them do it, but they are with us (BJP),” BJP state president Rikman G Momin said on Friday.

Referring to Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma’s recent statement affirming his continued support to NDA, Momin said, “Definitely this move will benefit BJP. When BJP allies with good regional parties, it benefits the BJP—it has proven in Bihar.”

‘BJP to be in double digits in 2028 polls’

Meanwhile, the state BJP chief hailed the party emerging as the single‑largest party in the Bihar elections and declared that BJP in Meghalaya will secure seats in double digits in 2028 elections.

“In 2028, we will be giving you a very shocking result (in Meghalaya),” Momin told reporters.

Asked about the possibility of increasing the party’s current tally of seats, he affirmed, “LK Advani and Atal Bihari Vajpayeeji were two in 1984… we (also) have two MLAs, we may increase…”

“Definitely, we will be getting double figure in 2028 in Meghalaya,” Momin added.

Regarding preparations for the upcoming Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) polls, Momin said the party is working hard and anticipates an improvement in its seat count.

On the Opposition, he said, “It is clearly shown in Bihar election that Congress is nowhere… they are getting only single digit.
