GSWSS-III operationalised after 17 long years

Another 8 million litre per day to be added to GSWSS

Shillong, Nov 19: After 17 long years, the Greater Shillong Water Supply Scheme (GSWSS) Phase‑III has been finally reached its operational stage.

Sanctioned in 2008, the project has been finally commissioned after successful testing this month, said PHE Minister Marcuise N Marak on Wednesday.

“I am very grateful to inform everyone that today we are able to commission and test GSWSS Phase‑III,” he said.

With this, another 8 million litres per day (MLD) will be added to GSWSS in Shillong city.

The additional water is expected to significantly improve water supply reliability for residents of Shillong.

Stage I of the pumping system had already been commissioned and tested successfully, and the ceremony marked the commencement of Stage II, which will pump water to the treatment plant at Mawphlang, he said.

Marak expressed his gratitude to Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma for sincerely reviewing this project and supporting the department in every angle.

He also acknowledged the contributions of former PHE Chief Engineer and all stakeholders whose persistent efforts enabled the project’s completion.
