Premature to discuss Paul Lyngdoh joining NPP: CM

Shillong, Dec 2: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Tuesday downplayed reports about former minister and UDP leader Paul Lyngdoh joining the National People’s Party (NPP), saying “it’s premature right now”.

“We are good friends, we have always discussed politics together… I think right now to jump to a conclusion that he will be joining and all, I think it is premature right now, it is not the appropriate time to discuss all these things,” Sangma said, adding that such discussions are common in politics.

Words about Lyngdoh’s possible shift to NPP have been doing the rounds since a cabinet reshuffle in September 2025, where Lyngdoh was dropped as Tourism Minister.

The reshuffle saw eight ministers exit, including Lyngdoh, and eight new faces inducted into the cabinet.

Sangma emphasized that politics involves talks and discussions, but ultimately, decisions will be revealed in due time.

“There is a lot of politics that happens. Last time somebody was telling me that some NPP MLAs were planning to leave and I asked you that time please give me the names of those NPP MLAs I will talk to them and convince them that they should not leave,” he said.

“So, this happens in politics, there are lots of talks and discussions taking place but at the end of the day let us see how things unfold and when the final time comes, we will let you know,” he added.
