Govt assures recruitment of doctors in Jaintia Hills, says JNC

Shillong, Dec 9: The Jaintia National Council has said that the government has assured the group of recruitment of over 150 doctors for Community Health Centres (CHCs) and Primary Health Centres (PHCs) in Jaintia Hills.

The JNC western zone on Tuesday sought the intervention of Health Minister Wailadmiki Shylla and Director of Health Services (DHS) JS Momin on the shortage of healthcare staff and facilities in CHCs and PHCs in Jaintia Hills region.

“He (Shylla) has assured the delegation that the government is taking steps to address the issues. The recruitment of approximately 150 doctors for CHCs and PHCs has already commenced, and we will address the shortage of medications and testing equipment,” JNC west zone president Hamehi Bamon said in a statement.

“Shylla also announced that MRI testing will soon be available in Jaintia Hills, with discussions underway with a company to supply the equipment,” he said.

The JNC leader said that the DHS director acknowledged the challenges faced by the department, citing a shortage of specialists in certain fields.

“(She informed that they) intend to appoint specialists in every CHC and PHC, but they are encountering challenges due to a shortage of students in this field,” Bamon said.

He also quoted Momin saying that they have successfully placed doctors in district hospitals and have sent students for specialized training to enhance their skills.
