Border movement curtailed in South West Garo Hills

Shillong, Dec 11: The district administration of South West Garo Hills has imposed a curfew in the district’s border area with Bangladesh, citing concerns over potential unauthorized cross-border movement and security threats.

The curfew, effective from 8 pm to 6 am, prohibits movement of persons near the international border, unauthorized processions or assemblies, and carrying of arms or instruments capable of being used as weapons within a 200-meter radius from the zero line.

The order, issued by the district magistrate under Section 163 of the BNSS, aims to prevent illegal activities, including smuggling and infiltration by militant groups, and maintain peace and tranquillity in the district, state, and country.

The curfew will remain in force until further orders, with the district magistrate citing the recent change of regime in Bangladesh and potential security implications as reasons for the decision.
