Lakshman Prasad Acharya sworn in as Assam Governor

Guwahati, July 30: Lakshman Prasad Acharya took the oath of office as the 32nd governor of Assam on Tuesday in a programme held at the Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra in the state capital. The swearing-in ceremony was presided over by Justice Vijay Bishnoi, Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court in the presence of prominent political figures and dignitaries.

The event was attended by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, members of the state cabinet, MLAs and various officials.

Acharya, born on October 3, 1954, has a rich political background, having been associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He served as a member of the Legislative Council in Uttar Pradesh from 2015 to 2023. Before taking on the role in Assam, he also held the position of Governor in Sikkim. Acharya will also hold additional charge as the Governor of Manipur.
