The chief minister, who was inaugurating the newly constructed building of the District Medical & Health Officer at Nongpoh in Ri Bhoi, said the government has made a concerted effort to improve the overall healthcare system in terms of infrastructure, equipment and human resources and as such, a dedicated budget for improving the overall health sector has been included for creation of a separate recruitment board for the posts of doctors and nurses, yielding positive results.

The new building has been constructed at a cost of Rs 18.4 cr and will be utilised as an administrative office, including setting up of the trauma center.

He further said that the government has accorded financial sanction for renovation of PHCs and CHCs across the state which has resulted in 148 healthcare centres being renovated and upgradation of civil hospitals at the district level.

The three district hospitals that are currently being upgraded are Tura, Shillong and Jowai Civil Hospital.
