Tura, March 27: A dispute between two self-styled social activists in the Garo Hills has escalated into a police complaint, with Grenath Sangma of Mindikgre, South Garo Hills, filing an FIR against activist Jaynie Ningring N. Sangma.
The complaint, submitted at Tura Police Station, accuses Jaynie Sangma—a government school teacher currently under suspension—of defamation, criminal breach of trust, and unauthorized circulation of a confidential conversation.
According to the complaint, the incident dates back to March 16, 2026, when Grenath Sangma was reportedly engaging with authorities regarding individuals under arrest and possible surrender discussions involving certain social and student organization-linked persons. During this time, he allegedly spoke with the accused over the phone in what he describes as a confidential conversation.
Grenath Sangma claims that the conversation was recorded without his consent and later circulated on social media platforms, leading to reputational damage and misinterpretation of his intentions.
The FIR further alleges that Jaynie Sangma publicly accused him of acting as a police informant in connection with a 2023 incident in Tura. He has denied the claim, stating that although his name appeared in an FIR, no evidence was found and the matter was eventually closed.
The complaint also accuses the activist of attempting to incite public hostility and endanger his personal safety through what he describes as false and misleading statements.
In addition, the FIR references her alleged past legal history and claims she has continued engaging in activism despite being under suspension from her government position.
Another allegation concerns her participation in a protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, where she reportedly made claims about incidents in West Garo Hills that the complainant describes as fabricated and unsupported by official records.
Grenath Sangma has also cited messages allegedly shared by the accused in a WhatsApp group regarding a recent killing of a member of ACHIK pressure group organization, claiming they contained unverified and potentially inflammatory content that could contribute to social unrest. He is seeking strong action against the accused under the new BNS laws.
