Jyotirao Phule dedicated life to ideals of equality and justice: PM

New Delhi, Apr 11: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday paid tributes to social reformer Jyotirao Phule on his birth anniversary and said his life was dedicated to the ideals of equality, justice and education.

Modi also paid homage to Phule at his statue in the Parliament House complex and said his ideals will continue to give strength and hope to countless people.

The prime minister said Phule was a pioneer in championing the rights of women and the marginalised.

“On the birth anniversary of Mahatma Jyotirao Phule, paying tributes to a visionary social reformer who dedicated his life to the ideals of equality, justice and education. He was also a pioneer in championing the rights of women and the marginalised,” Modi said in a post on X.

He said that through Phule’s efforts, education became a powerful instrument of empowerment.

“This year, we mark the start of his 200th birth anniversary celebrations. May his thoughts continue to guide everyone in the pursuit of societal progress,” Modi said.

Phule was born on April 11, 1827, in Maharashtra and died on November 28, 1890.(PTI)
