Former CM Salseng Marak admitted in Tura hospital

Tura, Aug 12: Former Meghalaya Chief Minister Salseng C Marak has been admitted to a hospital in Tura following health complications. His condition remains stable.

The 83 year old Salseng Marak was admitted to the Holy Cross Hospital on Friday last and was again shifted to Tura Civil Hospital today.

According to family members, the veteran politician from Garo Hills had been facing poor health for the last few weeks and became weak leading to his hospitalization.

“His health parameters are slightly better and if it improves further we hope to take him back home soon,” says eldest son and former GHADC MDC Silman K Sangma.

During the political instability period of the early 1990s, when regional forces were at the forefront of government formations and takedowns, Salseng C Marak emerged as the new Congress leader who went on to serve a full unhindered five year term as Meghalaya chief minister despite multiple attempts to bring down his government by regional forces.
