Filmmaker Bharathiraja’s mortal remains reach Theni for last rites

Theni (Tamil Nadu) Jun 11: The mortal remains of legendary filmmaker Bharathiraja reached his hometown of Theni on Thursday for the final rites.

The Tamil Nadu government has officially announced that the veteran director’s body will be laid to rest with full state honours at his farmhouse, located between Devadhanapatti and Batlagundu.

Following the government’s directive, Theni District Collector R Vaithinathan ordered immediate preparatory work for the state funeral. Acting on these instructions, Periyakulam Tahsildar Marudhapandi inspected the burial site today to oversee the arrangements.

District authorities are coordinating extensive security, crowd control, and logistical measures, as a large number of film personalities, political leaders, and public followers are expected to arrive to pay their last respects to the iconic filmmaker who redefined rural themes in Tamil cinema.
