James Sangma takes oath as Rajya Sabha MP

Shillong, July 20: Former Meghalaya minister and ruling NPP leader James Pangsang Kongal Sangma on Monday took oath as the lone Rajya Sabha MP from the state.

Rajya Sabha Chairman CP Radhakrishnan administered the oath to Sangma, who read it in Hindi.

James, who is the NPP national working president, was accompanied by his brother and Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, along with other party leaders.

“Accompanied my brother Shri @JamesSangma1 during his oath taking ceremony as Hon’ble Rajya Sabha MP from Meghalaya. Wishing him Godspeed on his new role. May he be the voice of our people and continue to contribute meaningfully to our state and nation,” the Chief Minister said in his X post.

Meanwhile, the National People’s Party (NPP) congratulated the two-time Dadenggre legislator on the new responsibility.

“Heartiest congratulations to James Pangsang K Sangma on taking the oath as the newly elected Rajya Sabha Member from Meghalaya,” the party posted.

“Wishing him strength, wisdom, and every success as he carries the voice and aspirations of the people of Meghalaya to the nation’s highest forum.”

James Sangma was elected unopposed to the Upper House earlier last month.
