Shillong, July 24: The third day of the State-Level Subroto Mukherjee Cup Football Tournament 2026 brought a wave of attacking football and high-scoring matches, setting the stage for semi-final action scheduled to be held on July 24, across Shillong’s SSA Stadium, MFA Turf and Mawlai Madan Heh.
Organized by the Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs, the tournament is being played in the Under-15 Boys, Under-17 Boys and Under-17 Girls categories.
Aligned with the vision of Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, the championship is designed as a platform to identify and nurture emerging football talent from across Meghalaya.Today’s fixtures produced several standout performances, including multiple hat tricks that drew loud cheers from the sidelines.
The energy on the field reflected the growing intensity as teams pushed for a place in the last four. In the Under-17 Boys, O.M. Roy Memorial Hr. Sec. School from East Khasi Hills edged out Myngken Christian Hr. Sec. School of Ri-Bhoi in a 4-3 thriller.
The match saw a hat-trick each from Banaijingshai Kharkongor for O.M. Roy and Chanjib Chetry for Myngken Christian. Elsewhere, Wapung Hr. Sec. School of East Jaintia Hills registered a commanding 5-1 win over St. Paul Hr. Sec. School of East Garo Hills, with Mehistar Lyngdoh and Kamwamutmi Dkhar both finding the net twice.
Bajengdoba Hr. Sec. School from North Garo Hills squeezed past Govt. Boys Hr. Sec. School with an early strike from Gipsang M. Marak that proved decisive.The semi-final lineup in this category will see Dapboklang Giri Memorial Sec. School of West Khasi Hills take on Wapung Hr. Sec. School, while O.M. Roy Memorial Hr. Sec. School faces Bajengdoba Hr. Sec. School.
The Under-15 Boys matches also delivered goals and drama. Umpohliew Jingtip Hr. Sec. School from East Khasi Hills put five past Dilma Apal Hr. Sec. School of North Garo Hills, with Borntius Dkhar scoring a hattrick to lead the rout. Anderson Hr. Sec.
School of West Khasi Hills defeated Don Bosco Hr. Sec. School of West Garo Hills 2-1 behind a brace from Jerrickson Nonglait, while Myngken Christian Hr. Sec.
School of Ri-Bhoi cruised to a 4-0 win over St. Claret Hr. Sec. School. Mangsang Hr. Sec. School and Maharam Govt. Hr. Sec. School played out a 1-1 draw. Little Star Hr. Sec. School from Eastern West Khasi Hills will meet North Liberty Hr. Sec. School of West Jaintia Hills in one Under-15 semi-final, while Umpohliew Jingtip Hr. Sec. School will go up against Step By Step Sec.
School of East Jaintia Hills in the other.In the Under-17 Girls category, North Liberty Hr. Sec.
School of West Jaintia Hills produced the day’s biggest margin with a 14-0 victory over Upper Kharkutta U.P. School of North Garo Hills. Baiarbha Nongrum and Saphika Pyrtuh were among the scorers in the dominant display.
Nongjri Presbyterian Sec. School of Ri-Bhoi also impressed with a 3-0 win over Rangthong Christian Hr. Sec. School, while Montfort Sec. School of West Garo Hills beat Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya 2-0 and Little Star Hr. Sec. School edged Tyrsad Hr. Sec. School 1-0 courtesy of a strike from Jesica Myrthong.
The girls’ semi-finals will feature North Liberty Hr. Sec. School against Lurmangkara Sec. School of West Khasi Hills, and Nongjri Presbyterian Sec. School against Little Star Hr. Sec. School.With the knockout stage now set, attention shifts to tomorrow’s semi-finals where schools from across the state will compete for a place in the finals of one of Meghalaya’s premier school football tournaments.
