Four criminals flee Arunachal jail, security forces launch massive manhunt

Itanagar, Aug 19: Four criminals escaped from judicial custody in Arunachal Pradesh’s Namsai district on Saturday night.

According to reports, they broke the ventilator grill and injuring the sentry on duty and run away.

They have been identified as- Arjun Kanda, Gopal Munda, Robin Surin, and Mineswar Dihingia.

Among them Mineswar Dihingia is reported to have been affiliated with NSCN (U).

Security forces have launched search and combing operations. A case has been registered accordingly.

“We have already sent the message to all the outpost. Search operations has been launched to nab the criminals. We don’t know how they broke the ventilator gril but our investigation is on,” said a police official.

Earlier, in July 2024, a collaborative effort between Arunachal Pradesh and Assam police forces led to the apprehension of an escaped jail inmate in Naharlagun.

The fugitive, identified as Isahan Deori, alias Patal, had previously been arrested under Section 303(2) of the Indian Judicial Code in Lakhimpur, Assam.

On July 12, 2021, seven undertrial prisoners escaped from a district jail in Arunachal Pradesh by attacking guards with chilli, sakt, and pepper.

The incident took place at the jail of East Siang district located in district headquarters, Pasighat.
