Shillong, July 26: Over 95% of the Meghalaya Teacher Eligibility Test (MTET) applicants appeared in the examination held across the state on Friday.
The high turnout reflects both the enthusiasm of aspiring teachers as well as commitment of in-service teachers to qualify the test, according to Directorate of Educational Research and Training (DERT).
The DERT conducted the exam on July 24 at 58 centres across all districts and sub-divisions of the state.
The MTET is a mandatory qualification prescribed by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) for appointment of teachers in Classes I to VIII.
While 95.23% of the 23,101 applicants appeared for Paper I for Classes I to V, 95.89% of the 22,821 applicants appeared for Paper II for Classes VI to VIII, according to official data.
The examination was conducted in a fair and transparent manner, DERT said, adding that results will be declared in due course.
“The Education Department, government of Meghalaya is pleased with the smooth conduct of MTET, 2026 and appreciates the cooperation of all stakeholders,” DERT said.
