Gambegre by-poll likely to be held before Dec 4

Shillong, Aug 21: The by-election to 56-Gambegre (ST) Legislative Assembly Constituency is likely to be held on or before December 4, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Dr BDR Tiwari said here on Tuesday.

The by-election to this constituency is necessitated as the sitting MLA Saleng A Sangma was elected to the Lok Sabha in the recently concluded parliamentary elections.

“Preparations are afoot for the upcoming by-poll as per the guidelines of the Election Commission of India (ECI),” the CEO said.

Dr Tiwari also said the Election Commission of India (ECI) held a meeting via video conference with the election departments of various states on Tuesday.

Under the directive of ECI, a special summary revision of the electoral rolls for 2025 is also underway in the state, the CEO added.
