Shillong Lok Sabha by-election: Deputy CM seeks support for party candidate Dr DRL Nonglait at Wahlyngkhat rally
Shillong, Sept 28: Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong has rejected reports on social media that 22 NPP lawmakers had gone to New Delhi to meet the BJP’s central leadership, terming such reports as fake.
Tynsong, who was addressing an election rally at Wahlyngkhat to seek support for Shillong Lok Sabha by-election candidate Dr DRL Nonglait, said his visit to Delhi was government-related work and was not linked to any political discussions within the NPP.
He was in New Delhi with fellow Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar on September 23. Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma arrived a day later. Tynsong said they met senior officials during their stay in the national capital.
The Delhi visit had led to speculations that he was aspiring to become the chief minister.
“News of all kinds was spread to the extent that everyone across the state lost their sleep,” he told the gathering at the rally. “The calls that I received were, why is this happening, and this is the question of the public,” he added.
Tynsong dismissed any political agenda behind the Delhi visit and denied that NPP lawmakers had travelled there as part of any such effort.
Speaking about the Shillong Lok Sabha by-election candidate, the deputy chief minister said Nonglait was a wise, humble and respectable person and called him ‘an ideal candidate for the Shillong seat’.
“It will be very difficult to get such a person,” Tynsong told the gathering of thousands, asking people to support the NPP candidate in the election.
He also appealed to the public to support Nonglait and ensure his victory.
