Shillong, Aug 23: Union Minister of State for Jal Shakti Raj Bhushan Choudhary on Thursday visited South West Khasi Hills to review implementation of central schemes in Meghalaya.
The meeting was attended by senior officials from the government, including the Water Resource Minister Comingone Ymbon.
Later, addressing the media, the union minister reiterated the central government’s focus and priority in developing the North East across different sectors.
“Today, I reviewed the implementation of schemes of various departments with the officials of the district administration. The focus is to assess the level of development in the state in different parameters and where the state of Meghalaya stands in comparison with other states of the country”, the union minister said.
Choudhary inspected various centrally-sponsored projects which included the Hydro-Meteorological Station under the National Hydrology Project at Umngi River, the Phodumtyngkoh – Phodtangjem Minor Irrigation Project at Rangmaw village, the Miyawaki Project in Pyndenspar, the Amrit Sarovar Project Phase- II in Sakwang Village, and the MGNREGA project at Phot Mawpon.
The union minister also inspected the Flow Irrigation Project(FIP) implemented by the Water Resource department at Phot Umnew.
He also reviewed the implementation of the schemes and met the representatives of different departments and district administration at the Circuit House, Mawkyrwat.
Officials from Community & Rural Development (DRDA), Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS), Public Health Engineering, Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP), Public Works Department (Rds), Water Resources, Soil and Water Conservation Department, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), Health Department, Agriculture Department, Horticulture Department and MePDCL gave detailed presentations on the achievements and challenges in the implementation of schemes in regards to their respective departments.
After his review meeting, Choudhary also visited Mawten and Nonglang village to inspect the progress of the Greater Mawkyrwat Water Supply Scheme and the Nonglang Water Supply Scheme where he interacted with the beneficiaries of the central government schemes, including the Jal Jeevan Mission and found that there has been proper implementation of the welfare schemes.
The union minister exhorted the district officials to ensure that all eligible beneficiaries get the benefits of the same.
