Shillong, Oct 6: A 26-year-old woman was allegedly attacked and robbed by a group of suspected drug users at Nongmensong in Shillong on Monday night.
Speaking about the incident, a Village Defence Party (VDP) leader said three to four people, suspected to be drug users, were allegedly involved in the attack. One of the suspects has been identified as “Gunni”, he said.
The victim, Silvina T Sangma, a temporary resident of Umkdait, Nongmensong, was walking near Reliance Trends at around 9 pm when she was allegedly attacked with a sharp weapon and robbed of cash and her mobile phone.
Sangma reportedly sustained a serious neck injury while attempting to escape from the attackers.
A woman who came to her aid said she found Sangma bleeding. The victim reportedly told her that she had been attacked and that her mobile phone had been snatched. She was subsequently taken to NEIGRIHMS for treatment.
One of the suspected attackers was reportedly apprehended by members of the public shortly after the incident.
Police are investigating the case and are working to establish the identities and alleged roles of the other suspects.
