Shillong, May 14: Colleges affiliated to the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) have sought an urgent solution to several pending administrative matters related to upcoming admissions on the basis of students’ scores in Common University Entrance Test (CUET).
In this regard, the Meghalaya College Principals’ Council (MCPC) has urged NEHU to convene the Academic Council to resolve the pressing issues.
In light of the state’s likely inclusion in the CUET system from current academic session, NEHU has formulated admission guidelines for affiliated colleges to accommodate both CUET-qualified students and those without CUET scores, said MCPC president Dr Eureka FP Lyngdoh in a statement.
However, she said, several pressing issues remain unresolved at the university level.
The issues include approval of the syllabi for fourth year of undergraduate programme, grant of new and renewal of existing affiliations, amendments to affiliation ordinances and regulations to align with new curriculum framework, etc.

“Addressing these matters necessitates convening of the Academic Council at the earliest,” she said.
The MCPC also appealed to all authorities concerned and stakeholders to prioritise the issues of the affiliated colleges in the interest of future of thousands of students across the state.
Expressing deep concern over the current stalemate in the sole affiliating university in the state, the MCPC president said, “NEHU plays a pivotal role in Meghalaya’s higher education system, with approximately 85 affiliated institutions and nearly 75,000 students enrolled across them.”
“In this context of uncertainty, the Council wishes to place on record its sincere appreciation for the Examinations Department of NEHU and Prof Sumarbin Umdor, Controller of Examinations, NEHU,” she said.
Despite the then prevailing turmoil at the campus, the department successfully conducted the Undergraduate Odd Semester Examinations in November and December 2024, including the first ever examination for the 26 vocational training courses introduced under new UG curriculum framework under NEP 2020, she added.
“This timely intervention ensured that the academic progression and future of thousands of students across affiliated colleges were not adversely affected,” Lyngdoh said.
She further added that the Examinations Department has also taken proactive steps to engage with affiliated colleges on key academic issues.
