Guwahati, Dec 29: After President Draupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, former Member of Parliament and president of the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), Maulana Badruddin Ajmal has written to the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, addressing the growing violence and human rights violations faced by Hindu minorities in Bangladesh.
In his letter to the UN Ajmal highlighted the dire situation of Hindu minorities subjected to violence, property destruction, and fear of persecution.
Hindu minorities in Bangladesh are reportedly facing rising violence, including attacks on their places of worship. Ajmal expressed concern over the Bangladeshi government’s inability to provide adequate protection.’
The violence has led to tragic loss of life, destruction of homes, and looting of properties. Hindu families live under constant threat, with their children growing up in an environment of fear and insecurity.
Ajmal urged the international community to hold Bangladesh accountable for failing to protect its minorities. He called for immediate measures to safeguard lives, religious sites, and properties.
Ajmal emphasized the need for strict punishment for those responsible for the atrocities to deter future incidents and uphold the rule of law.
Stressing human rights as a universal priority, Ajmal sought international solidarity and meaningful advocacy to ensure safety and peace for all communities in Bangladesh.
Positioning himself as a responsible leader and advocate for human rights, Ajmal appealed to the UN to apply diplomatic pressure on the Bangladeshi government for stronger protections for Hindu minorities.
His appeal reflects a broader commitment to justice and coexistence, urging global actors to intervene to restore security and dignity for affected communities.
“As your office has the power, I, specifically, implore you to apply pressure on the Bangladeshi government to take immediate steps to ensure the safety and security of Hindu minorities and their places of worship. Furthermore, there must be calls for exemplary punishment for those responsible for these heinous acts, to deter future violence and uphold the rule of law,” he said.
“The fact is that protecting human rights should be a top priority for all nations. The Hindu minorities of Bangladesh deserve solidarity and support from the international community. So, I hope you will strongly advocate for meaningful change in Bangladesh to ensure that everyone, regardless of their religious beliefs, can live in peace and security there,” he added.
