Airport expansion may take 3 years: Dhar

Shillong, Jan 8: The much-awaited expansion of Shillong Airport at Umroi in Ri-Bhoi district may take another three years as the district authorities are in the search of land required for the project.

Informing this on Wednesday, deputy chief minister in-charge Transport Sniawbhalang Dhar said, “District authorities are on the job for identification of additional land for the airport expansion project.

“Around 22-23 acres of land is required for the project and we are trying to complete it within three years. Let’s hope for the best,” Dhar said.

The Meghalaya High Court had earlier ordered the state government to complete handing over of the land to the Airport Authority of India (AAI) within three months.

Dhar said the government has already completed the survey and now beneficiary land owners are being identified.
