Shillong, Feb 22: The Department of Statistics at North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) inaugurated the International Conference on ‘Advances of Interdisciplinary Statistics and Applications in AI & ML (AISAAM-2025)’ at the Multi-Use Convention Hall here today. The event was chaired by Vice-Chancellor (in-charge), Prof. N. M. Panda, and welcomed a host of dignitaries and delegates from India and abroad.
The inaugural session began with a welcome address by Dr. S. K. Jha, Head, Department of Statistics, NEHU. Prof. Prithvi Pal Yadav, President and Vice-Chancellor of Sri Padmapat Singhania University, Udaipur, delivered the keynote lecture on “Future of Jobs & Life-Long-Learning Skills in the Next Decade,” referencing key Indian and international studies.
Distinguished speakers including Dr. R. B. Burman, Prof. Vinod Kumar Gupta, Prof. Asit Kumar Chandra, Prof. Bishal Gurung, and the Dean of School of Physical Sciences also addressed the gathering. Over 167 participants have registered for the three-day conference, scheduled to continue until February 23.
Following the keynote lecture were the Aditya Shastri Memorial Talk by Prof. Rajendra Kumar Sharma from IIT Delhi, the B.K. Kale Endowment Memorial Talk by Prof. Debasis Kundu from IIT Kanpur, and the M.N. Das Memorial Talk by Prof. Mausumi Bose from ISI Kolkata. The session on Financial Statistics featured three expert speakers, after which five parallel technical sessions showcased 14 invited and contributory papers. The first day concluded with a vibrant cultural program of songs and dances from various North-Eastern states, celebrating the region’s rich heritage.
