Assam boosts school infrastructure and career guidance with new web portal and career books

Guwahati, Jan 18: The Assam government has taken a major step forward in improving school infrastructure and student career preparedness with the launch of a Civil Works Monitoring Portal and two new Career Guidance Table Books under Samagra Shiksha, Assam (SSA) on Saturday.

Education Minister Ranoj Pegu launched the initiatives aimed at enhancing infrastructure development in 45,000+ government and provincialized schools while providing students with essential career insights.

The newly launched web portal will enable real-time monitoring of civil construction projects, ensuring timely execution and quality maintenance. This system tracks projects such as new classrooms, science labs, computer rooms, toilets, ramps, and teachers’ quarters.

Accessible via the SSA web portal (ssa.assam.gov.in), it includes multi-level logins for state, district, and block-level authorities. Junior Engineers will upload real-time geotagged photos of construction progress, ensuring transparency and accountability.
“This portal will bring efficiency in monitoring civil works across 45,000+ schools, ensuring faster completion and quality infrastructure,” stated Minister Pegu.

To help students make informed career choices, the minister also released Volumes III & IV of the Career Guidance Table Books, developed in collaboration with UNICEF. These books cover over 200 career pathways, including opportunities in Arts, Media, Entertainment, Vocational Careers, Banking, Engineering, Law, Health, and Management.

Last year, SSA published Volumes I & II, focusing on STEM and non-STEM careers, benefiting 4,285 secondary and senior secondary schools. Additionally, career charts in calendar format were distributed to 864,399 students, and 4,326 nodal teachers (NTs) received career guidance and mentoring training at the district level.

To further strengthen career support, Samagra Shiksha, Assam also runs Career Podcasts, where industry experts share success stories, interact with students, and guide achieving career goals.

The initiatives reflect Assam’s commitment to holistic education, combining infrastructure improvements, teacher training, curriculum development, and technology-driven learning. Samagra Shiksha, Assam, continues its mission to create a future-ready generation equipped with the right skills and opportunities.
