BDOs to partner with VECs for Aadhaar seeding

Shillong, Mar 6: All block development officers have been instructed to be in contact with the village employment councils (VECs) for Aadhaar seeding, Minister in-charge Community & Rural Development (C&RD) Abu Taher Mondal said in his reply during the question hour on Wednesday.

The Centre had decided since January 1, 2024 that no payment will be made under the MNREGS without Aadhaar seeding.

The chief minister discussed the matter with the union minister and the date has been extended till February 24, the minister informed the house. “They have allowed us to pay for whatever work has been done so far but henceforth, no payment will be made if a job card holder does not have Aadhaar seeding,” he added.

“Accordingly, we have instructed all BDOs to take up the matter at the VEC level and provide travelling allowances for taking job card holders to the bank for Aadhaar seeding. We have also directed the banks to handle Aadhaar seeding after 1 pm,” said the minister.

Earlier, the minister informed that the Batabari C&RD block is functioning. He admitted that there are infrastructure or staffing issues affecting the smooth transition and functioning of the block office which may affect the implementation of MGNREGA.
