Siwan (Bihar), Apr 30: A relative of a senior leader of Bihar’s ruling BJP was gunned down in Siwan district in a road rage incident, and the police shot and injured the accused when he tried to escape after being arrested.
According to a statement issued by the Siwan police, Harsh Singh, whose maternal uncle Manoj Singh is a former BJP MLC, was killed at Andar Dhala in Town police station area late Wednesday evening.
Harsh Singh’s father Chandan Singh, who was present at the spot, also sustained grievous injuries in the attack.
The accused, identified with the help of CCTV footage as Chhotu Yadav, was arrested from his house in Hussainganj police station area, the statement said.
During interrogation, Yadav told the police that he had opened fire in a fit of rage upon being rebuked by Harsh Singh and Chandan Singh after his car scraped against their vehicle.
Yadav also named three of his friends who were with him at the time of the attack, and raids were on to nab them.
The police also claimed that while in custody, Yadav tried to flee but ended up receiving a gunshot in his leg.
Meanwhile, state BJP spokesman Niraj Kumar said, “The swift action by the Bihar Police is a warning for criminals who should know that Yogi Adityanath’s ‘operation langda’ in adjoining Uttar Pradesh shall be carried out here as well.” (PTI)
