Shillong, May 2: The state BJP has welcomed the Centre’s decision to construct a greenfield high-speed corridor from Mawlyngkhung near Shillong to Panchgram near Silahcar in Assam with an estimated cost of ₹22,864 crore.
The high-speed corridor is just another example of how the Narendra Modi-led NDA Govt at the Centre continuously strives towards development of North East and tribal areas through its Act East Policy, said BJP state general secretary Wankitbok Pohshna on Friday.
Trade and commerce is bound to spike with such a roadways project, ensuring financial benefits for people of the state, he said in a statement.

“After so many years of Independence, the North East and Meghalaya are finally getting due focus and development, which has only been made possible because of the Prime Minister’s personal commitment to our state and region,” he said.
Pointing at the state government’s responsibility in this regard, he said, “It’s now up to the state government, also an NDA partner, to work in tandem with the Centre so smooth implementation of the project can be ensured.”
The state unit of the party will hold special awareness programmes on development of NE region and Meghalaya under the BJP-led Central government, he added.
