Guwahati, March 22: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Assam Pradesh, has strongly criticized the opposition for distorting BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi’s statement in the Rajya Sabha. The party accused the opposition of deliberately misrepresenting the context of Trivedi’s remarks and engaging in manipulative politics to mislead the public.
In an official statement, Assam BJP’s chief spokesperson, Manoj Baruah, highlighted that Assam’s demographic transformation, particularly in certain districts, is an undeniable reality. He pointed out that since the early 20th century, unchecked migration from East Bengal has drastically altered the population structure of several districts in Assam.
Baruah specifically mentioned the erstwhile Goalpara district, from which Congress MP Rakibul Hussain was elected, as one of the most affected areas. He emphasized that historical demographic studies of Assam, both pre-independence and present-day, clearly illustrate this dramatic shift.
Additionally, he underscored the challenges faced by the indigenous communities in the Dhubri Lok Sabha constituency, where large-scale migration over the past century has posed serious existential threats. The local population has repeatedly voiced concerns over this demographic shift and its long-term consequences.
Baruah firmly stated that no true patriot would support unchecked and illegal migration. He condemned those who downplay this reality for political gain, asserting that such individuals cannot claim to be true nationalists.
He reiterated that despite the opposition’s attempts to manipulate the narrative, the BJP remains steadfast in its commitment to Assam’s security. Ensuring the protection and future of Assam’s indigenous and Indian-origin citizens remains the party’s top priority, and no amount of political obstruction will deter this mission.
