New Delhi, Jan 8: AAP leaders’ attempt to take a media tour to former chief minister Arvind Kejriwal’s residence here in a bid to counter “Sheesh Mahal” jibes has earned the BJP wrath which said trying to “forcibly” enter the premises was an example of “irresponsible, insane and anarchic behaviour”.
AAP leaders Sanjay Singh and Saurabh Bharadwaj demolished “political etiquette and ethics” through their “shameless” act, BJP national spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi said on Wednesday.
No matter how hard they try they cannot get away from the “disgusting display of corruption” in building Kejriwal’s “Sheesh Mahal”, Trivedi said, slamming Singh and Bharadwaj.
“What AAP leaders did today was a glaring example of their irresponsible, insane and anarchic behaviour’. They tried to enter the (former CM’s residence) forcibly,” Trivedi told a press conference at the BJP headquarters here.
This shows the writing on the wall is clear to them that the AAP is losing the Delhi assembly polls, he said.
“No matter how much they try, they cannot get away with the ‘Sheesh Mahal’, which has become a monument of Kejriwal’s extravagance. They cannot get away with the truth that a museum of a variety of luxury items was set up in the ‘Sheesh Mahal’ with the money looted from the people of Delhi,” he said.
Trivedi also hit back at the AAP over its PM’s “Raj Mahal” attack on the BJP, and said AAP leaders trying to reach the PM Narendra Modi’s official residence reflects the party’s “anarchic tendency”.
He said the AAP’s allegations about money spent on the PM’s residence are “petty and childish”. He flayed the party for comparing the PM’s residence with the 6, Flagstaff Road House “which is not even designated as the official residence of the Delhi chief minister”.
Earlier in the day, Sanjay Singh and Saurabh Bhardawaj tried to enter the 6, Flagstaff Road House, the official residence of Kejriwal when he was chief minister, with the media. However, they were stopped by the authorities from entering the premises.
Police had set up barricades and deployed personnel in front of the bungalow, preventing the AAP leaders from entering the premises.
The party workers later tried to reach the PM’s official residence on the Lok Kalyan Marg, but were stopped by police again, following which they staged a “dharna”.
Trivedi claimed the people of Delhi are feeling cheated with the “disgusting display of corruption” in Kejriwal’s “Sheesh Mahal” and they will give a “befitting and appropriate” reply to the AAP in the assembly elections.
He said the renovation at the 6, Flagstaff Road House is under “investigation”, and asked AAP leaders why they tried to enter the building a day after the Model Code of Conduct came into effect.
It was well within the authority of the PWD minister to allow entry into the building before the announcement of Delhi polls, Trivedi said. “What kept them waiting so far? Was this helplessness or trickery?…Did they want to tamper with the something inside (in the house)?'”
The BJP leader alleged that this is not the first time when AAP leaders have sought to create “anarchy” in the city.
Singh and Bharadwaj were seen “threatening” officials while attempting to enter the “Sheesh Mahal” he said, calling it an insult to all the central government and Delhi government officials.
“Creating anarchy is a natural character of the AAP. That’s why Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called them ‘aapda’ (disaster),” the BJP leader charged.
Citing some of the past “examples of AAP’s anarchy”, Trivedi said, “They staged a protest and demonstration on the Republic Day in 2014. We never held any protest on such occasions, not even during the Emergency. They attacked the BJP’s previous headquarters on the Ashoka Road with batons in their hands. Delhi chief secretary was beaten up at his office in 2018.”
The AAP’s own Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal was “assaulted” at the former chief minister’s official residence earlier this year, he added.
The BJP is committed to “completely expose” the AAP government’s “corruption” and would not let any AAP “conspiracy” succeed, Trivedi said. (PTI)
