BJP to fight Gambegre on “development” plank, says Hek

Shillong, OCT 23:  BJP leader and cabinet minister A L Hek has said that his party will fight the Gambegre elections on the plank for development.

The party has fielded Tura MDC Bernard N Marak.

“Gambegre lacks development and BJP wants to bring it at par with the rest of the other constituencies,” said Hek.

He informed that many national leaders and also state leaders will be campaigning for the bye-election to drum up support for the party’s candidate and ensure his victory.

Bernard Marak was the lone aspirant for the BJP ticket and is expected to file his nomination papers on Thursday, informed Hek.

Asked about the confidence level of the BJP in the fight for the Gambegre seat, given that it is a Congress bastion for the past many years, Hek countered it by saying, “Election is election. Any candidate, who is contesting the election, is confident to win. Not only the CM’s wife, even wives of other leaders are also confident.”

On the TMC’s allegation against the NPP for violating MCC by distributing roofing sheets to voters of the constituency, the BJP leader said, “This is not happening only this time in this constituency. In all elections, all the time this kind of allegation is always there. How will you be blamed unless it is proven.”

Bernard to fight on “good governance”

BJP’s Bernard N Marak has said that he and his party will fight the Gambegre bye election for good governance, to empower the rural folks through grassroot democracy and to end corruption which has made life miserable for the people there.

“The people of Gambegre will have to choose between corruption and good governance,” he announced.

Terming the upcoming election to be intriguing,  the BJP candidate claimed that all those who have been deprived by the leaders of the ruling government will side with his party.

“Gambegre bye election will be a fight against the present CM’s wife, former CM’s sister in law, present MP’s candidate and us- the BJP” said Bernard.
