JP Nadda approves BJP state executive committee for 2025-28

Shillong, June 14: The state BJP has appointed new office bearers for 2025-28 term while the party expressed satisfaction over the government’s functioning and assured to remain in the ruling alliance.

“The national president JP Nadda has approved a new state team to oversee the organisational preparation for 2028 elections,” BJP state president Rikman G Momin told reporters on Saturday.

As party prepares itself for future election in the state, Momin underlined the need strengthen the party’s organisational base, saying, “Inside organisation, sometimes we have to see how to run the party. I am head of the party… I have to change some (office bearers) who are inefficient for the party.”

To a query, if the party has considered severing its alliance with the National People’s Party (NPP)-led government ahead of next elections of earlier, Momin said the alliance would not affect the prospects of BJP in Meghalaya.

However, he said any final decision on the party’s alliance in Meghalaya would be taken by the central leadership as NPP is part of BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

The new state office bearers include six vice-presidents – Khrawboklang Basaiawmoit, Dr Bernadette Lyngdoh and Er Bipen Pradhan (Shillong City), Bernard N Marak and Anil Hajong (Tura City), Lakhon Biam (West Jaintia Hills); two general secretaries – Wankibok Pohshna and  Amitava Saha.

There are also six secretaries in the executive body – Anzie Ellicia A Sangma, Belbora Wankhar, Daniella L Nonglait, Sukhi Pariat, Commanderful Sana and Wilber Danngo Marak.

Other office bearers in the executive body are – treasurer Sarwan Jhunjhunwala, joint treasurer Ashok Singhania, media convener Sabyasachi Ghose, chief spokesperson Mariahom Kharkrang, IT convener Sarad Bawri, social media convener Fredee Aaron Kahit, office secretary Dipika Dey, and state cells convener Deeya Singh Rathore.

Meanwhile hailing the performance of the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government, the state BJP chief said, “It is doing well. It is working perfectly okay and you have seen lot of developments taking place.”

He also commended chief minister Conrad K Sangma, saying, “The chief minister is really working hard and as part of the government, we are also supporting them in whatever way we can.”

Asked about dissidence in the party, he admitted the party facing rebellion from certain leaders for not getting ticket to fight elections.

“That time they were blaming the state president. May be during that time there were dissidents but now we are perfectly okay. We are following all central programmes. We have a very good organisation,” she added.

Meanwhile, several leaders, including former legislators, have expressed interest to join the party.

“We welcome everyone to join our party, to work for the party and the state,” he said.
