BJP’s masterstroke: CM Sarma sets 45-year age cap for mandal chiefs, ignites leadership overhaul

Sarma’s game-changing strategy ushers in a new BJP era in Assam; the party mobilizes for total electoral domination

Guwahati, March 2: The Assam Pradesh Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is gearing up for a high-octane electoral battle with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma setting a 45-year age limit for mandal presidents, a strategic move aimed at injecting youth and dynamism into the party’s leadership.

Addressing a massive organizational workshop and felicitation ceremony at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Bhawan in Guwahati on Saturday, the Chief Minister called on newly elected district and mandal chiefs to be the sentinels of BJP’s vision and work relentlessly for Assam’s prosperity.

Lashing out at the Congress-era neglect, Sarma asserted that the BJP government has uplifted marginalized communities through targeted welfare initiatives. He reinforced that only a BJP-led Assam can ensure the state’s security, prosperity, and cultural preservation.

The Chief Minister credited BJP governance for Assamese gaining classical language status and Charaideo Maidam achieving global recognition. With Advantage Assam 2.0 unlocking a ₹4.91 crore investment wave, Sarma declared that the state is on a fast track to economic transformation.

In his address, Assam BJP president Dilip Saikia set a battle-ready tone, urging district and mandal presidents to lead the charge in the upcoming panchayat, autonomous council, BTR, and assembly elections.

Paying tribute to six late BJP state presidents, Saikia also praised the CM for elevating the tea tribe’s cultural heritage, citing the Jhumair Binondini dance’s grand showcase by PM Narendra Modi. He hailed Advantage Assam 2.0 as the foundation for massive global investments and collaborations that will reshape the state’s future.

Addressing the meeting, former Assam Chief Minister and Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal lauded PM Narendra Modi’s dedication to the Northeast, highlighting his policy of sending a Union Minister to the region every 15 days since 2016. This, he said, has positioned Assam as the gateway to South and Southeast Asia.

In a grand gesture, BJP’s national general secretary (organization) B.L. Santosh unveiled BJP Barta, the party’s official mouthpiece, dedicated to the late senior leader Harekrishna Bharali.

The event, presided over by Dilip Saikia, saw the attendance of top BJP brass, including Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, BJP national secretary Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, Assam BJP in-charge Habeesh Dwivedi, outgoing BJP president Bhabesh Kalita, and BJP organizational general secretary G.R. Rabindra Raju.

With 500 out of 507 party functionaries in attendance, the BJP’s rising momentum was evident as leaders took a firm pledge to secure landslide victories in every upcoming election. The message was clear: BJP is here to dominate, and Assam’s political landscape is set for a major shake-up.
