Shillong, Dec 11: The Khasi Students’ Union on Thursday observed black day by displaying of black flags and black banners as a part of the North East Students’ Organization protest against the implementation of Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 in the northeastern region.
In Shillong, KSU activists were seen putting up black flags and anti-CAA black banners in Khyndailad and other locations.
Some of them read, “December 11, 2019 the day CAA became an act. A black day for the indigenous NE communities”, “We oppose CAA, we want ILP”, “We stand united against CAA”, “No CAA, No AFSPA, Yes ILP”.
The black day was observed in seven North East states.
In a statement, NESO chairman Samuel B Jyrwa has reminded the people of the whole of North East that on December 11, 2019, despite the relentless opposition of the indigenous peoples against the government of India went ahead and passed draconian law – CAA, 2019.
“NESO has declared that the 11th December will always be remembered as a Black Day for the whole of the North East. So, in continuation of this observation of this black day, the NESO has decided to display black flags and black banners in all the important places of all the seven states on the 11th of December 2025”
“This observation is to give a message to the Government of India that we are against this Citizenship (Amendment) Act 2019 and also at the same time to remind our people and our posterior of yet another political injustice that the Government of India perpetrated against the indigenous peoples of the North East,” Jyrwa added.
