Body of missing teen recovered from Garo Hills river

Baghmara, Aug 21: Rescue teams on Wednesday recovered the body of a 16 year old boy who got swept away by the water current in South Garo Hills, a day earlier.

The victim identified as Kakin R Marak was part of a group of youngsters heading back to their village in Nengkong, Siju region, late Tuesday afternoon.

They were swimming across the Chibi chiring or river at Chibigre when the victim was pulled away from the others by the strong water currents. A frantic search by villagers failed to locate him.

His body was found downstream the next morning.

Several parts of Garo Hills, particularly the southern district, are reeling from incessant rains for the past three days and rivers across the region have been flowing above the danger mark at many places.

Landslides have also occurred at many places along the highway that leads up to Baghmara, district headquarters of South Garo Hills.
