BSF jawans foil bid to smuggle 16kg silver ornaments near Bangladesh border, 1 held

Kolkata, Jul 24 : The Border Security Force (BSF) has said its jawans seized 16.55 kg of silver ornaments and arrested one person during a patrol at Tarali border outpost under the South Bengal Frontier, the paramilitary force said in a statement on Thursday.

Acting on a tip-off, jawans of the 143 Battalion intercepted a motorised van, and upon inspection, discovered 16 packets wrapped in brown tape, concealed in a secret cavity of the wooden vehicle.

“All 16 packets were found to contain silver ornaments,” the BSF said, adding that the seized consignment is valued at approximately Rs 16.82 lakh.

Preliminary interrogation said the apprehended individual is an Indian citizen residing in Balti village.

The man has been handed over to the department concerned for further legal action. (PTI)
