
Tura, May 2: In a significant academic expansion for postgraduate studies in the state, Meghalaya’s first state university- Captain Williamson State University, headquartered outside Tura, is all set to commence its maiden postgraduate classes from the month of August, announced its Registrar Ambrose Ch Marak on Friday.
Meghalaya Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma, along with the University Vice Chancellor Dr Vasanti Vijay Kumar, senior government and university officials, along with Rangsakona MLA Subir Marak and education department adviser H M Shangpliang held a high level meeting at the university campus situated at Balalgre (Rangsakona) to rectify, if any, shortcomings and issues concerning the functioning of the university, be it land issues, internet and mobile connectivity, power supply, among others.

The Captain Williamson State University’s Registrar, Ambrose Ch Marak, who gave a power-point presentation during the meeting announced that the university is all set to commence its first ever postgraduate classes from August, this year. He said that preparations are underway in full swing to ensure the first academic session takes off this year, marking a major milestone for education in the state.

“A crucial meeting of the Board of Studies will be held in the first week of May in which Principals of affiliated colleges and subject teachers will participate to finalize the syllabus for the postgraduate academic session. We have already prepared the Prospectus of the University and the courses of the University will be advertised for wide publicity,” informed the Registrar.
While seats for the first batch of students for postgraduate studies has been pegged between 30 to 40, the Registrar informed that the University will ensure flexibility and would increase the seating capacity if numbers seeking admission increases.

Although undergraduate results are still pending, the university plans to roll out admissions publicity ahead of the results declaration to attract prospective students. “Just before declaration of results in colleges and universities, we will give out the prospectus and advertise the admissions,” said Registrar Ambrose Marak.
Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma, in his address before the university and education officials said that the state government will play a proactive role to raise the bar on higher education across the state and assured all support to the new university.
