Career counselling concludes at ICFAI University, Tura

Garobadha, April 29: A career counselling program to shape the future career paths for students who appeared in the HSLC 2025 Board examinations was held at St. Dominic Savio HS School, Garobadha on Monday.

Conducted by ICFAI University Meghalaya, Tura Campus, the session was led by Abijit Sarkar, Assistant Professor at the Department of English and Communication Studies, who emphasised the growing importance of Humanities and Social Sciences in today’s dynamic world. 

Prof Sarkar highlighted how these fields nurture essential skills like critical thinking, creativity, communication, ethical reasoning, and leadership — competencies that are highly valued across diverse sectors, including education, civil services, media, technology, and social development.

He also explained how the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 encourages multidisciplinary learning, enabling students to follow their passions across streams. He discussed the expanding career opportunities in the Humanities and stressed the importance of combining academic knowledge with practical skills, internships, and continuous upskilling.

The program continued with Sudam Chetry, Assistant Professor of IT, who spoke about booming career options in Information Technology, particularly in areas like Artificial Intelligence, coding, and design, and prepared students for the demands of the digital age.

Chompaboti Hajong, Assistant Professor in the Department of Management, enlightened the students on career prospects in Management, Commerce and Tourism. She stressed the importance of soft skills, business analytics, and internships, highlighting that Management and tourism graduates are also eligible for government jobs and competitive examinations. She has also highlighted the opening avenues for management, commerce and tourism students, like cruises, airlines, and the hospitality industry. She has also organised a fun-based interactive game to help students identify their field of interest and career inclination.

Meanwhile, Muktadul Hussain, Senior Administrative Officer, introduced the students to the various programs offered by The ICFAI University Meghalaya, encouraging them to make informed academic and career decisions. He elaborated on the range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses available across disciplines like Management, IT, Humanities, and Tourism.
