Centre releases Rs 95 cr for land compensation

Shillong, Dec 10: The Centre has released Rs 95 crore of land compensation for implementation of the Package III, Pynursla Bypass of the Shillong-Dawki road project.

This was informed by the deputy chief minister in-charge PWD (roads) Prestone Tynsong after chairing a review meeting attended by officials of the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) on Tuesday.

Tynsong announced that the compensation amount for Package III, Pynurlsa Bypass, has been sanctioned by the government of India, with approximately Rs 95 crores allocated for land compensation.

“Very soon the district collector of East Khasi Hills as well as SDO Civil Pynurlsa will be able to work out the details of the stakeholders and then release the compensation to the bank account of all of them,” he told reporters.

Expressing satisfaction with the progress of the other packages of the Shillong-Dawki Road project, Tynsong said, “I am happy to inform you that the package I, II, IV, V, the progress of works is satisfactory.”

Regarding Package I, Tynsong announced that the NHIDCL and the constructing company aim to complete the 4-lane stretch up to Baniun Pomlum by December 31, 2025.

“We are able to complete it, well small issues may be there but by and large this 4-lane can be made functional by the end of this month and by the end of this year,” he said.

The Deputy Chief Minister highlighted that the progress of work on Package II, IV, and V is satisfactory, with measures being taken to address environmental concerns.

“Direction has also been given to the concern company to make sure that the prescription issued by the Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board has to be complied in totality,” he added.

Regarding the Shillong-Western Bypass, Tynsong stated that work is progressing well, with a target completion date of 2026.

“The progress of work is good, of course little stretch of package III, we have little challenges where the landowners, the village, claim and counterclaim still exist… I am sure within a few weeks from now, the district collector will be able to resolve the issue,” he added.
