City police bust bike lifters’ gang

5 bike lifters arrested, 2 stolen bikes recovered  

Shillong, Apr 23: The city police on Tuesday arrested five bike thieves and recovered two bikes stolen from the city.

Following reports of theft of the two R15 bikes from Sunny Hills and 3rd Mile Upper Shillong, police alerted night patrols and set up check points at several places.

The bike stolen from 4th Mile was abandoned at Sangmein while the other was intercepted at a check point at Pynursla.

One accused bike thief, Nironton Tangsong (24) of Mawryngkang, was caught while another escaped after trying to jump the check point.

In a follow-up action, Special Cell East Khasi Hills arrested  four others – Pius Talang (19) from Pyrdiwah, Lovingstar Surong (18) from Pynursla, Balajied Mawiong (19) from Sohlong, Pynursla and Banpynskhem Mukhim (19) from Pynursla.

The gang has been involved in many bike lifting cases and will be forwarded to court tomorrow, district police chief Vivek Syiem said.
