Clear pending dues of home guards: KHNAM

Shillong, Nov 27: The state youth wing of the Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) on Tuesday urged the state government to clear the pending salaries of the home guard volunteers, who are engaged for traffic duties at the earliest.

In a letter to the deputy CM in-charge home (police) Prestone Tynsong, KHNAM state youth wing president J Pyngrope alleged that the Home Guards performing traffic duties in and around the Shillong city have not received their salary for several months.

“It goes without saying that employee(s) who do not received their salary on a regular basis have to go through a lot of hardship while trying to provide for the daily need of the family. We have met the Home Guard authority and the traffic police authority on the subject and it is learned that there is a delay in the process of sanction from the Government,” he said.

“Therefore, we would request your office to kindly take necessary step to ensure that the pending salary of these volunteers is cleared at the earliest in full so that the family can celebrate Christmas with joy and happiness,” he stated.

He also urged the authorities to ensure regular disbursement of salary to these volunteers.

“We have also been informed that recruitment of these home guards is being done in an unofficial manner wherein, no written appointment has been issued to them,” he added.
