CM Conrad likely to induct new faces in cabinet soon

Shillong, Sep 14: With the NPP-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government completing two-and-a-half years, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma is likely to carry out a major cabinet reshuffle in the coming days, informed sources said.

Some cabinet ministers are likely to lose their positions to make way for new faces from the coalition in order to strike the balance among the ruling constituents.

The ministers, who may have to face the axe, include those from the National People’s Party (NPP) and other MDA constituents, the source said.

Two ministers from NPP – education minister Rakkam A Sangma and food and civil supplies minister Comingone Ymbon – are among those who are likely to lose their cabinet berth.

UDP’s Kyrmen Shylla, revenue and disaster minister; BJP’s AL Hek, animal husbandry & veterinary minister; and HSPDP’s Shakliar Warjri, sports & youth affairs minister are also likely to have to make way for new faces in the cabinet.

According to the source, senior-most NPP legislator from Resubelpara, Timothy D Shira, who recently stepped down as Deputy Speaker, is likely to be inducted into the cabinet.

The other potential new inductees include NPP’s Jowai legislator Wailadmiki Shylla, BJP’s South Shillong legislator Sanbor Shullai, UDP’s Mairang legislator Metbah Lyngdoh and HSPDP’s Mawshynrut legislator Methodius Dkhar, the source said.
