Guwahati, April 23: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has strongly condemned the terror attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, that left 28 civilians dead in what he described as a “religiously motivated massacre.”
Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Sarma warned against both cross-border terrorism and internal forces attempting to divide Indian society along religious and caste lines.
“This was not just an attack—it was a horrifying example of religious extremism,” Sarma said. “Reports say the terrorists demanded the victims recite the Kalima to prove their faith. Those who couldn’t were executed on the spot. This is a new low.”
Sarma linked the incident to recent provocative remarks by Pakistan’s Army Chief, suggesting a dangerous escalation. “Just a week ago, the Pakistan army chief threatened Hindus. And now this. It’s clear the terror strike had a targeted, communal motive,” he said.
The Chief Minister emphasized the need for unity within the Hindu community in response to such threats. “For the terrorists, there’s no SC, ST, or OBC. They see only one thing: religion. This should be a wake-up call for all Hindus to stand as one, beyond caste divisions.”
Aiming what he called “internal enemies,” Sarma also issued a sharp warning to those in India who allegedly work to divide the nation for foreign interests. “Some among us are acting like agents of Pakistan. They thrive on division and unrest. But I believe the people of India will teach them a lesson they won’t forget.”
He urged the public to remain vigilant and united, stressing that both external and internal threats must be dealt with firmly. “This attack proves we’re not just fighting terrorism from across the border—we also need to be alert at home. Unity is our strongest weapon.”
Sarma’s comments come amid a wave of outrage across the country, with multiple leaders and organizations demanding swift justice and stronger national security measures. His call for Hindu solidarity and internal vigilance adds a politically charged dimension to the already intense debate over terrorism and communal harmony in India.
